How to build an AI assistant on your company documents with Duaer (no code)
You can build an AI assistant on your company documents without code. In Duaer, connect the places your documents already live and let the knowledge base index them. People then ask in plain words, and each answer cites its sources and uses only what that person may open.
What do you need before you start?
The Duaer knowledge base is the AI assistant. There is no vector store to set up, no prompt to write, and no model to wire in. You need three things:
- Where your documents live: Feishu, WeCom WeDrive, Google Drive, or Microsoft 365 (OneDrive and SharePoint). One is enough; several work too.
- A read-only credential for that system, created in Duaer by an owner or admin of your organization.
- A first set of content, such as the spaces or folders that hold policies, the employee handbook, product material, and SOPs.
How do you set it up in Duaer?
- As an owner or admin, open Knowledge base in Duaer and go to Data sources. Members do not see this tab.
- On the source card, choose a credential, or click New credential.
- Click Connect. When you see “Connected. Indexing has started.”, Duaer is reading your documents.
- For Feishu, use Choose what to index to pick only the wiki spaces and drive folders you want.
- Once indexing is done, ask something in Knowledge base, such as “What is the hotel limit for business trips?”, and check the answer and the sources under it.
- Invite your colleagues. Members ask in Knowledge base. Employees ask under Knowledge base in the Duaer employee portal. People can also message Duaer in Feishu, mention it in a Feishu group, or chat with it one-to-one in WeCom.
When a document changes, does the answer change?
Yes. Duaer re-reads changed documents every 10 minutes and re-reads who may open each file every hour. Feishu also offers live updates, which index a file again as soon as it changes. If you can’t wait, click Index now on the source card.
Which files can it read?
- PDF, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, plain text, Markdown, and CSV.
- Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets; Feishu docs and Base records.
- Files over 20 MB or in other formats are indexed by title only, so the name is searchable but the content is not.
How is this different from building RAG on the canvas?
If you want full control over retrieval, the model, and the answer format, build it on the canvas: see Build a Duaer chatbot that answers from Google Drive docs. Most companies just want people to get answers, and the knowledge base is less work because permissions, citations, and updates are already handled.
Questions
Do I need code to build a knowledge base assistant in Duaer?
No. An owner or admin connects a source under Data sources in Duaer. There is no vector store to build and no prompt to write.
Does Duaer need us to migrate our documents?
No migration. Documents stay where they are, and Duaer only reads and indexes them. When you disconnect a source, its content leaves the Duaer index.
What does Duaer do when it can’t answer?
When there is nothing to base an answer on, Duaer says that nothing you may see matches instead of making something up.

Turn SharePoint and Google Drive into a Q&A knowledge base with Duaer
To turn SharePoint, OneDrive, or Google Drive into a Q&A knowledge base, connect them to the Duaer knowledge base. Files stay where they are. Duaer reads and indexes them, and people ask questions and get answers that link to the source file.
Knowledge baseAI answers with citations and no hallucination: how Duaer does it
To get AI answers with citations and without made-up facts, do three things: answer only from documents the person may read, mark which file each statement comes from, and give no answer when there is no source. The Duaer knowledge base answers this way by default.
Knowledge basePermission-aware enterprise AI search: how Duaer keeps document access intact
Permission-aware enterprise AI search filters results by what each person may open in the source system, before any answer is written. Duaer follows the source’s permissions: a document shows up only for people who can open it where it lives, and answers use only those documents.
Knowledge baseEmployees can’t find company information? Let them ask Duaer
Employees can’t find company information because it is spread across several systems under names they wouldn’t guess. Connect those places to the Duaer knowledge base and let people ask in their own words. Duaer answers, links the source, and shows who else to ask.
AI recipesBuild a Duaer chatbot that answers from Google Drive docs
In Duaer, chunk the documents in a Google Drive folder into a vector store, then let an AI Agent retrieve the relevant pieces to answer each question.
Organizations and teamsGive employees their own Duaer employee portal
The Duaer employee portal is a separate sign-in address for each organization. Employees see the tasks and decisions workflows push to them and the metrics they follow, and can ask Duaer about them, without opening the workflow editor.
