Troubleshooting

Fix OpenAI 429 in Duaer: rate limit vs insufficient quota

An OpenAI 429 in Duaer means one of two things: requests are too fast, or the account is out of credit. Read the message, then slow down or add billing.

Tell the two apart in Duaer

  • Rate limit reached for … on requests per min (RPM) or tokens per min (TPM): too fast. Waiting a moment succeeds.
  • You exceeded your current quota, please check your plan and billing details (insufficient_quota): the account is out of credit. No retry will succeed.

Rate limit: slow down in Duaer

  1. In Duaer, open the failing node, switch to Settings, turn on Retry On Fail, set Max. Tries to 3–5 and Wait Between Tries (ms) to 5000.
  2. For large batches, add Loop Over Items with 10–20 items per batch and a Wait of a few seconds inside the loop.
  3. Keep prompts and output length tight so you use fewer tokens per minute.

Insufficient quota: add billing, or use Duaer Chat Model

  1. Add credit or a card under Billing on the OpenAI platform and wait a few minutes. If it still fails, create a new API key and update the OpenAI credential in Duaer.
  2. To skip a separate OpenAI bill, switch the model on your AI Agent or Basic LLM Chain to Duaer Chat Model. It needs no key and charges Duaer credits.
