# Categorize bank statement lines and total them by category with Duaer

In Duaer, upload a bank statement, let Duaer Judgment put each transaction into categories you define, then export the lines and totals per category.
## Build statement categorization in Duaer

1. Add [Form Trigger](/build/form-trigger.md) with one File field labelled Statement and Accepted File Types .xlsx,.csv.
2. Add [Extract from File](/build/extract-from-file.md) with Extract From XLSX and Input Binary Field Statement. For GBK-encoded CSV, follow [Parse CSV text in Duaer](/snippets/parse-csv-in-code-node.md). Each transaction becomes one item.
3. Add [Duaer Judgment](/build/duaer-judgment.md). Set Text to the description and counterparty columns, such as {{ $json.Description }} {{ $json.Payee }}.
4. Under Questions add one: Name category, Type Choice, Options one key: description per line, such as salary: Payroll and benefits, rent: Rent and utilities, purchase: Supplier payments, travel: Travel, tax: Taxes, income: Sales income, other: Other.
5. Duaer Judgment outputs only its verdict. Add [Merge](/build/merge.md) with Input 1 from Extract from File and Input 2 from Duaer Judgment, Mode Combine, Combine By Position, so each transaction gets its category.
6. Add [Convert to File](/build/convert-to-file.md) to export the lines as XLSX. For totals per category, add [Summarize](/build/summarize.md) split by judgment.category with Sum on the amount.

## Better and cheaper categories

- Specific option descriptions, such as purchase: payments to suppliers, excluding payroll and tax, beat bare names.
- Each transaction is one Duaer Judgment call at the model price. Drop rows that need no judgment, such as interest and fees, with [Filter](/build/filter.md) first.
- Statement lines go to the judgment model you pick. For sensitive data, pick a compliant model from your admin model pool.

## Questions

### Can Duaer use my own chart of accounts for statement categories?

Yes. Duaer Judgment categories are the keys and descriptions you write in Options, so use your account names.

### Why does the Duaer Judgment result lack the transaction fields?

Duaer Judgment outputs only judgment, answers, and model. Merge it back with the transactions by Position.
