Ask about a file: upload a PDF, Word or Excel file to Ask Duaer
Send Duaer a file on the employee portal or in Feishu, DingTalk, Slack or Microsoft Teams and ask about it. Answers name the file they come from, and totals and rankings in a spreadsheet are calculated by Duaer.
Ask about a file on the employee portal
- Under the Ask Duaer box, click Add a file and choose one or more files.
- The files show above the box. Click × beside one to take it off.
- To have Duaer answer from these files alone, tick Only these files. Otherwise Duaer reads the files and the knowledge base you may read.
- Write your question and send it. The files upload when it is sent and then show on the question.
Which files
- Formats: PDF, Word (.docx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Excel (.xlsx), CSV, TSV, text, Markdown, JSON, HTML.
- Size: up to 10 MB a file.
- Number: up to 10 files a conversation.
- Not supported: older .doc and .xls, zip files, images.
How the answer is made
- The answer names the file each fact comes from, in bold. When it also uses the knowledge base, those sources are listed on their own.
- For numbers in a spreadsheet (totals, averages, the largest, by region or month), Duaer writes one read-only query and runs it on the sheet; the numbers in the answer come from its result, not an estimate. The query and its result show in the thinking steps.
- Your organization’s prompt rules and masking of sensitive content apply as usual.
Send a file in a chat tool
- In a direct chat with the Duaer bot in Feishu, DingTalk, Slack or Microsoft Teams, send a file. The bot says it received it, and your questions in that chat then use it.
- In Slack and Microsoft Teams you can send the file and the question together, and Duaer answers at once.
- Start a question with "file only" to have it answered from the files alone.
- In a group, a file you send is used only for your own questions.
- The Slack app needs the files:read scope, see Slack. WeCom: if WeCom sends file messages to the app, Duaer handles them the same way.
How long files are kept
- Files on the employee portal stay with their conversation and are deleted with it.
- Files in a chat tool stay 24 hours after the last file sent in that chat, then are deleted.
- Only the person who uploaded a file can use it. Duaer keeps the text and sheet contents it read, not the file itself.
Questions
Can colleagues see a file I upload?
No. It is used only for your own questions; other people asking in the same group do not use it.
Why do spreadsheet totals match my own count?
The numbers come from a query Duaer runs on the sheet, not from the model’s estimate. When a question needs a calculation, the query and its result show in the thinking steps.
Does the file go into the company knowledge base?
No. It is used only in that conversation. To make it searchable for colleagues, put it in a connected data source.

Give employees their own Duaer employee portal
The Duaer employee portal is a separate sign-in address for each organization. Employees see the tasks and decisions workflows push to them and the metrics they follow, and can ask Duaer about them, without opening the workflow editor.
AssistantsEmployee assistants: build your own assistant on the Duaer employee portal
Employees build an assistant from one sentence: it answers by its own instructions, reads only the sources it is given, runs on a schedule or when something changes, and can be shared with colleagues.
Knowledge sourcesKnowledge sources you can connect to Duaer
Chat tools, drives and documents, CRM and service, mail and meetings, data warehouses: what each source reads and how to connect it, and how the Duaer bot works in each chat tool.
Knowledge basePermission-aware enterprise AI search: how Duaer keeps document access intact
Permission-aware enterprise AI search filters results by what each person may open in the source system, before any answer is written. Duaer follows the source’s permissions: a document shows up only for people who can open it where it lives, and answers use only those documents.
