# Connect DingTalk to the Duaer knowledge base

Add your company’s DingTalk app as a robot so employees ask Duaer in DingTalk, then turn on DingTalk Docs to search knowledge bases with each person’s own DingTalk access.
## Add the DingTalk robot first

1. In the DingTalk developer console, open your company’s app, add a robot and choose HTTP mode for receiving messages.
2. In Duaer, create a DingTalk Robot credential with the app’s App Key, App Secret and Robot Code.
3. As an owner or admin, open Data sources in the sidebar, select Add source and choose DingTalk, choose Knowledge source under Add as, then choose the credential and click Connect.
4. Turn on Answer questions sent to the robot, put the Message receiving address shown on the source into the robot settings, and publish the robot.
5. Give the app the permissions to read member details and send robot messages.

Employees ask the robot and get answers privately, with citations, from what they may open. When they ask it to do something, it sends a link to confirm on the Duaer employee portal. DingTalk keeps no conversation history, so each question is answered on its own.

## People whose DingTalk account has no email

Members are matched by their DingTalk email or company email. For someone whose DingTalk account has no email, click Add person under People linked by hand and enter their DingTalk user ID or mobile number and their Duaer email.

## Turn on DingTalk Docs

- DingTalk documents: the full text.
- DingTalk spreadsheets: the displayed values of A1:Z200 in the first three sheets.
- Other files such as PDFs: by title only.

1. In the DingTalk developer console, give the app Wiki.Workspace.Read, Wiki.Node.Read, Storage.File.Read and Document.Workbook.Read, and let it read the directory.
2. As an owner or admin, check Include DingTalk Docs knowledge bases in search on the DingTalk source. It is off by default, because adding the robot did not agree to indexing documents.

## Who finds which DingTalk document

Duaer reads the knowledge bases and documents each member sees, as that member: whoever may read a document in DingTalk finds it in Duaer, and employees do nothing. Members are matched in the directory by their DingTalk email or company email; people who are not matched find nothing from DingTalk Docs. Permissions the app lacks are shown in red on the source card, and those files are indexed by title only.

## How soon changes show

- DingTalk Docs are read every 6 hours, and on request.
- The DingTalk directory is read once a day, for people search.
- Unchecking DingTalk Docs, or removing the robot, removes every DingTalk document from search.

## Limits

- Up to 1,000 members and 5,000 document nodes per pass.
- DingTalk calendars are connected by each employee on the employee portal; see [Turn your drives and documents into a knowledge base](/guides/sharepoint-drive-knowledge-base.md).
- DingTalk approvals can be a process source; see [Add a process source](/build/process-sources.md).
## Questions

### Why does a member find no DingTalk documents?

They are not matched in the DingTalk directory by email. Make their DingTalk or company email match their Duaer email, or add them under People linked by hand.

### Is DingTalk Docs on by default?

No. An owner or admin checks Include DingTalk Docs knowledge bases in search on the DingTalk source.

### Can people mention the robot in a DingTalk group?

The robot answers questions sent to it, and sends each answer privately to the person who asked.
