# Enterprise AI search vs process mining: what’s the difference?

Enterprise AI search answers “how do we do this, and where is the document?” by reading documents. Process mining answers “how does the process really run, and where does it stall?” by reading event logs from systems such as ERP and CRM. Glean is a well-known example of the first and Celonis of the second. Duaer puts knowledge answers and follow-up on due work together for mid-sized teams that need some of both.
## What is enterprise AI search?

Enterprise search finds information inside a company’s own systems, databases, and repositories. Enterprise AI search goes a step further: it answers directly, cites the source, and respects each document’s permissions. Glean is a leading example; it says it connects to 275+ apps and offers search, an assistant, and agents.

## What is process mining?

Celonis defines process mining as a technology for modeling, analyzing, and optimizing business processes. It extracts event logs from information systems and rebuilds how a process actually runs end to end, a “digital twin” of the business. Typical uses are order-to-cash (O2C) and purchase-to-pay (P2P), with data from ERP and CRM systems such as SAP and Oracle.

Celonis now describes itself as the platform to industrialize enterprise AI and launched its Context Model in 2026. It says it mainly serves enterprises with complex processes, prices by scale, and offers a free plan to start.

## What is the difference between the two?

- What they read: AI search reads documents, sheets, and wikis. Process mining reads event logs from ERP and CRM systems.
- What they answer: AI search answers “how do we do this, and where is it?”. Process mining answers “how does it really flow, where is it slow, and where does it stray from the standard?”.
- Who uses them: AI search is for every employee. Process mining is mainly for process owners, analysts, and leadership.
- How you start: AI search needs document sources connected. Process mining needs structured system data, usually shaped into a data model first.

## Where does Duaer fit?

Duaer doesn’t do process mining and doesn’t analyze ERP event logs. It does two everyday things:

- Answers when you ask: knowledge base answers with citations that keep source permissions. See [AI answers with citations and no hallucination](/guides/ai-answers-with-citations.md).
- Follow-through on what’s due: items with a date and an owner become card rules, reach the owner before the date, and every decision is recorded. See [Follow up on overdue work without chasing people](/guides/follow-up-overdue-work.md).

## Which one do you need?

- To find bottlenecks in big processes like O2C or P2P with mature ERP data: process mining, where Celonis is the better fit.
- Thousands of employees and many apps that need one place to search: enterprise AI search, where Glean is the better fit.
- A mid-sized team with documents in Feishu, a shared drive, or Microsoft 365 that also needs samples, calibrations, and contracts followed up: Duaer.

## Questions

### Can Duaer do process mining?

No. Duaer doesn’t analyze ERP event logs. It answers questions from your knowledge base and puts due and overdue work in front of its owners. For process mining, a tool like Celonis fits better.

### Is the Duaer knowledge base a kind of enterprise AI search?

Yes. The Duaer knowledge base finds answers in connected documents within each person’s permissions and cites them. Duaer adds follow-up on work that comes due.
